This week’s Portion, Ki Tavo (“When You Go”) begins with instructions from Moses. When they enter The Land, they are to cultivate the land and bring the Firstfruits of their harvest to the place God designated and declare their gratitude to Him.
The Portion continues with the laws of the tithes given to the Levites and to the poor; it gives the details instructions on how to proclaim the blessings and the curses on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal (already presented in Portion Re’eh). The Levites are to stand between these two and remind the people that they are God’s chosen people, and also that they have chosen God.
The Portion continues with a list of Blessings for Obedience to Torah and an even longer list of Curses for Disobedience.
Moses concludes the Portion by telling the people that they have finally (after 40 years in the Wilderness) attained “a heart to know, eyes to see and ears to hear.”
